We are looking for an inspirational and innovative leader of English to take our department to the next level and grow the culture of literacy within Fearnhill.   The English department has a proven track record of success with a dedicated and experienced team.  The successful candidate will build on existing good practice to continue to raise standards, strengthen partnerships and ensure positive outcomes for all our students.  He or she will also lead the continuing improvement of literacy across the school, and as a senior middle leader will work closely with the senior leadership team on whole school improvement.

You will be:

  • An excellent classroom practitioner with an understanding of how children learn
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Someone with a clear vision of the role of literacy in learning

Job description


Fearnhill is a very successful learning community and in 2016 was rated 9th out of Hertfordshire’s 76 secondary schools in terms of its ‘Progress 8’ score of +0.49. Ofsted recognised in June 2015 that “Attitudes to learning are positive. Salary Grade and hours:               H3 27hrs a week term time + 5 additional days


Start Date:                                          ASAP

Fearnhill School is seeking an enthusiastic and committed colleague to support students across the curriculum within a range of faculties.  This will include support for individual students with specific SEN needs. You will ensure that relevant and timely support is given to all students to support their emotional and behavioural development.

This position would suit someone who is able to work as a 1:1 LSA, who can motivate, engage and support all pupils in their learning journey.  You will work alongside and be supported by our Inclusion Leader.
